About this list

Nobody can walk into these groups from outside: they belong to a school or a company and take only their own pupils or staff. They are listed because they shape the chess of the region. The Dürer-Gymnasium in Nürnberg and the Willibald-Gluck-Gymnasium in Neumarkt carry the German Chess Youth’s title of Deutsche Schachschule, the Johann-Pachelbel-Realschule has hosted the Bavarian school championship, and the Wilhelm-Löhe-Schule, the Maria-Ward-Gymnasium and the Hardenberg-Gymnasium in Fürth teach chess as an elective.

In the counties the Paul-Pfinzing-Gymnasium in Hersbruck has hosted a school championship with players from the primary schools around it, the Hermann-Stamm-Realschule in Schwabach has played a tournament on sets lent by the town’s club, and the Gymnasium Herzogenaurach meets weekly on Monday afternoons. Not a school at all is the chess group of the Siemens employees’ leisure association in Erlangen, which meets every second Friday. A child who wants to play outside school will find a youth group in most clubs under club nights.
